Description
The MARTEN is one of these small predatory mammals that have been largely misrepresented in popular culture as terrifying pack hunters, their size vastly exagerated for dramatic effect in various media supports.
The actual MARTEN was probably hunting smaller animals, BIRDs perhaps or even its cousins, the ancestors of our modern bats. The reconstruction you see here is fairly conservative, as it is represented without fur, safe for a mane of spine-like protohair. However, you might notice that it also includes several "modern", bat-like features. The most recent reconstructions go even further than that, of course, not only depicting it with fur, but also with primitive gliding membranes.
